Women Open Strong With 5-0 Win Over Wayne State (Mich.)

A first-time opponent for a team can be a difficult proposition, so when the Pirates faced Wayne State (Mich.) in the NCAA Round of 16 on Tuesday morning, it represented a perfect opportunity for the Pirates to get some of the opening-day jitters in the NCAA Championships out of the way. The Warriors, who handed Northwood (Mich.) their first loss of the season in the region final to earn a berth into the NCAA Round of 16, battled early, especially at No. 3 doubles, before the Pirates found their groove to come away with the 5-0 win.

Armstrong will now advance to face NYIT in the Quarterfinals at 9 a.m. on Thursday. NYIT upended St. Mary's (Texas), 5-0, to earn that school's first berth into the NCAA Quarterfinals. The men will face NYIT in the first round later today.

There is rain on the horizon but we hope that it will hold off to allow the men to take the court at 1:30 p.m.
